Care & maintenance

Saltwater can be tough on equipment and with frequent use, gear can degrade over time. Here are some tips to ensure the longevity and safety of your gear for decades.

SPEARGUN

  • Never load your speargun outside of the water
  •  Never point your speargun at something unless you are intending to shoot that object
  •  Never put your finger on the trigger of a loaded speargun unless you are intending to fire it
  • Always make sure your sheet-bend knot on you bands is tightly secured before loading your speargun
  • Replace bands annually or biannually before signs of wear (bands can be removed from the wishbones by untying the sheet-bend knot)
  • Bands can be stored in the freezer for added longevity
  • Rinse thoroughly with fresh water after every dive and hang dry before storing
  • Re-oiling the teak stock is recommended every few years; all stocks are oiled unless otherwise stated. First, remove the components then lightly sand with 220 grit sandpaper and reapply teak oil following the instructions on the container
  • For 2-part epoxy-sealed guns, no stock maintenance is required unless damaged. If bare wood becomes exposed, hang dry the speargun and reapply epoxy on the damaged area

KNIFE

  • Rinse thoroughly with fresh water and allow to dry before returning to the sheath to prevent rusting

BONKER

  • Re-oil every 2-3 years if you want to revive the look of your bonker
